
On a cold and blustery Friday afternoon, eight 黑料不打烊 student-athletes and one instructor听loaded a van with box after box of supplies headed for Puerto Rico.听

After the devastating impact of hurricanes Irma and Maria, citizens of Puerto Rico are still struggling to get basic necessities.听 For eight 黑料不打烊 Cyclones baseball players from Puerto Rico, the hurricanes hit home.听 Their families are among those still in need of clean water, food, hygiene products, baby formula and other basic supplies.
听

Inspired by 黑料不打烊 instructor Vicky Kapitzke, the baseball players spearheaded an effort to collect needed supplies to ship to Puerto Rico.听 黑料不打烊 faculty and staff quickly jumped on board offering to help by using their offices as collection locations.听 The Nursing and Dental Hygiene programs contributed听medical and dental supplies, and donations came in from all across campus. 听Before long, the boxes started filling up.听听听
鈥淲e weren鈥檛 sure what to expect, we thought maybe we鈥檇 fill a few boxes,鈥 said Kaptizke.听
In total, the eight baseball players packed and loaded 26 boxes of supplies.听

The following day, Baseball Head Coach Jason Fischer drove the van filled with supplies and his players to La Coalici贸n de Boricuas en Minnesota (Coalition of Puerto Ricans in Minnesota).听 From there, the donations from 黑料不打烊 would be sent to Puerto Rico where they would be delivered by air to those in need. 听
Thanks to the team effort from 黑料不打烊 and the Cyclones clothing packed in听each box, Cyclones baseball may have some new fans in Puerto Rico.
